This page is about the money that goes to Meta, the ad spend itself. About 2,900 people a month search "how much do facebook ads cost" (our September 2026 pull), and nearly all of them want the same four numbers before they commit a budget: a click, a thousand views, a lead, and a sensible month. Every figure below names its source and its year, because these move every quarter.

How much do Facebook ads cost per click and per 1,000 views?

The short answer

Facebook ads cost about $1.92 per click in US lead generation campaigns, $0.70 per click in traffic campaigns, and about $23 per 1,000 views. Those figures come from LocaliQ's Facebook advertising benchmarks, published 24 October 2025, and from Superads, which tracked a US median of $23.42 per 1,000 views across the 13 months to September 2026.

You are usually billed for views, and a cost per click is simply what those views work out to once somebody taps.

The click numbers disagree, and they disagree for a reason. LocaliQ splits US campaigns by what you asked for, so a lead campaign click costs $1.92 while a traffic click costs $0.70, and Superads blends every campaign type into one US median near $1.18. Take the spread, roughly $0.70 to $1.92 a click depending on the job you give Meta, as the honest answer rather than picking the flattering end of it.

How much does a Facebook ad lead cost?

A Facebook lead costs $27.66 on average across all industries, and the trade you are in moves that number more than anything you can control. LocaliQ's 2025 benchmarks put restaurants at $3.16 a lead and dentists at $76.71, a 24 times spread on the same platform in the same year.

In the accounts Ziwi manages, a Facebook lead typically costs $17 to $20, though it depends heavily on the industry.

Industry (LocaliQ Facebook lead campaign benchmarks, published 24 October 2025)Cost per clickShare of clicks that became a leadCost per lead
All industries$1.927.72%$27.66
Restaurants and food$0.7418.25%$3.16
Real estate$1.579.53%$16.61
Attorneys and legal services$4.1010.53%$18.17
Home and home improvement$2.235.22%$41.26
Beauty and personal care$3.065.29%$51.42
Dentists and dental services$9.786.38%$76.71

Expensive trades are expensive because the job is worth more, and every advertiser bidding for that same person knows it. A dental implant case and a pizza order do not justify the same bid, which is how the auction ends up at $76.71 against $3.16.

Your own number is set less by Meta than by your offer, your city and how fast somebody answers the phone.

What is a realistic monthly Facebook ads budget for a local business?

A realistic starting budget for one local business is $500 to $2,500 a month in ad spend, and where you land inside that depends on what a lead costs in your trade. That range is Ziwi's guidance, not a published benchmark. The table is division on LocaliQ's 2025 averages, not a forecast and not a promise.

Monthly ad spendLeads at the $27.66 all-industry averageLeads at a dental-level $76.71Who that suits
$500About 18About 6One offer, one city, testing whether the channel works at all
$1,000About 36About 13One location with an offer that already sells
$2,500About 90About 33Two service lines running at once, or a competitive metro
$5,000About 180About 65Several locations, or a business that can absorb the volume

Those are divisions, not projections, and nobody including us can promise a lead count from a budget. Results vary by market, offer and spend. Two things move your real number more than the budget does: how specific the offer is, and how fast the lead gets answered, which is why Ziwi Engage replies in seconds rather than hours. To put ad spend next to the rest of a monthly marketing number, run it through the marketing budget calculator.

What makes Facebook ads cost more or less?

Five things move the price, and the biggest is your trade, which spans $3.16 a lead to $76.71 on LocaliQ's 2025 averages. The other four are the time of year, the job you give Meta, how small your audience is, and how good the ad is. Only the last three are yours to change this week.

  • Your trade. LocaliQ's 2025 numbers run from $3.16 a lead in restaurants to $76.71 in dental, so a painful month in one category is a good month in another.
  • The time of year. The US median cost per 1,000 views moved between $20.24 and $27.47 across the 13 months to September 2026, peaking in the November holiday stretch (Superads). That is the same ad for about 36 percent more money.
  • The job you give Meta. Asking for leads costs more than asking for views. Affect Group's first quarter 2026 US read, published 26 March 2026, put lead campaigns at $26 to $40 per 1,000 views against $9 to $14 for reach campaigns.
  • How small your audience is. Tighten the radius and the age band far enough and there is only a small pool left to show the ad to, and a small pool costs more per person reached.
  • How good the ad is. Meta's own developer documentation says it works out an effective bid from your bid strategy, your bid amount and the probability of getting the result you asked for, and that ads deliver when you are likely to reach that result. In plain terms, an ad people respond to is cheaper to run than an ad they scroll past.

What is the minimum Facebook ads budget worth running?

Meta's published minimum is about $1 a day per ad set when you are billed for views, but the minimum worth running is whatever buys enough leads to judge. At LocaliQ's all-industry average of $27.66, $500 a month buys about 18 leads, which is enough to see a pattern. At a dental-level $76.71 the same $500 buys about 6 leads, which is not enough for you or for Meta to conclude anything.

  1. 01

Price one customer. Average job value times how often they come back. A $6,000 case and a $90 visit do not justify the same budget.

  2. 02

Set what you can pay for a lead. If one lead in three books, and you will spend a fifth of the job value to win it, that is your ceiling.

  3. 03

Multiply by the leads you actually want. Fifteen leads at a $40 ceiling is a $600 test, not a $3,000 one.

  4. 04

Add the management fee on top. Ad spend goes to Meta on your own card, and management is billed separately at $297 a month with spend up to $1,500. The $297 covers Facebook and Google together. Your tier is set by your total monthly ad budget, not by the platform.

  5. 05

Give it 30 days before you judge it. A week of clicks tells you nothing. Judge on leads over a month, then move the money toward whatever produced them.

How do you know if you are overpaying for Facebook ads?

Straight answer

You are overpaying when your cost per lead sits well above the published average for your trade and nobody can tell you why. The benchmarks to measure against are $27.66 a lead across all industries and $23.42 per 1,000 views in the US, from LocaliQ's October 2025 data and Superads' 13 months to September 2026. Five things are worth checking every month.

  • You cannot see your cost per lead. If the report leads with reach and likes instead of leads and what each one cost, the number is being hidden rather than managed.
  • Your cost per 1,000 views sits far above $23.42. That was the US median across the 13 months to September 2026 (Superads). Well above it on a broad audience usually means the ad is being scrolled past.
  • Your fee moves every time your budget moves. A percentage fee charges you more for the same work as you scale, which is why Ziwi prices by spend band instead.
  • The ad account is not in your name. If the spend history, the page and the lead data walk out with the agency, you pay twice: once now, and again to rebuild it.
  • Nobody has changed the ad in months. Costs climb as people stop responding to the same picture, and Meta prices delivery on how likely you are to get the result you asked for.

Every number on this page is an average from somebody else's data, and your account will not match it exactly. What you control is the offer, the page the ad points at, how fast the lead is answered, and how often the creative changes. If you are still choosing between channels, read Google Ads versus Facebook ads. If you want the campaigns built, tested and run for you, see Facebook and Instagram ads management.

Running search ads too? What Google Ads costs covers click and lead prices by trade, and the same $297 a month management fee covers both platforms.
