Google Ads costs what you set as a budget plus what each click sells for at auction. Across US search campaigns the average click is $5.42 and the average lead $66.69 (LocaliQ, June 2026). The fee to have someone run it is separate: Ziwi's Google Ads management is $297, $497 or $797 a month by ad spend band.

These costs depend on your industry: a lawyer's lead costs far more than a restaurant's. Ad spend is paid to Google on your own card and is never marked up.
See prices by industryThis page is about the money that goes to Google: what a click costs, what a month costs, and how many leads come out the other end. It is for an owner deciding whether to switch the ads on, or checking whether a budget someone already set is sane. The cost cluster around "how much does google ads cost" gets about 1,600 searches a month in the US (our September 2026 pull), and most pages answering it quote one national average that fits nobody.

Google Ads costs whatever you set as a daily budget, and Google bills you for clicks against it, so there is no price list to read. On the US averages LocaliQ published in June 2026, a $1,000 month buys about 184 clicks at $5.42 each and about 15 leads, because roughly 8 in every 100 clicks turn into a call or a form.
Google caps a month at 30.4 times your daily budget, so a $33 a day budget cannot bill you more than about $1,003 that month (Google Ads Help, about average daily budgets, checked September 2026). The fee to have a person or an agency run the account is separate money, covered on what Google Ads management costs.

| Monthly ad spend | Clicks at the $5.42 average | Leads, at 8 in every 100 clicks | Cost per lead at the average |
|---|---|---|---|
| $500 | About 92 | About 8 | $66.69 (LocaliQ, June 2026) |
| $1,000 | About 184 | About 15 | $66.69 (LocaliQ, June 2026) |
| $2,500 | About 461 | About 38 | $66.69 (LocaliQ, June 2026) |
| $5,000 | About 922 | About 75 | $66.69 (LocaliQ, June 2026) |
That table is arithmetic on published national averages, not a forecast for your street. Your own click price moves with your trade, your city and what people actually type, and a crowded market can double it. None of it includes the fee for running the account, which is why what Google Ads management costs is a separate page: it is separate money, paid to a different party.
The average cost per click across US search campaigns is $5.42 and the average cost per lead is $66.69 (LocaliQ 2026 Search Advertising Benchmarks, drawn from thousands of Google Ads and Microsoft Ads campaigns, last updated June 2026). Underneath that average the spread is enormous: $1.63 a click in arts and entertainment against $9.87 a click for attorneys and legal services, in the same report.
In the accounts Ziwi manages, a Google Ads lead typically costs $26 to $33, though it depends heavily on the industry.
The same benchmark series put the all industry average at $5.26 a click a year earlier (LocaliQ and WordStream 2025 Search Advertising Benchmarks), so clicks got about 3 percent more expensive year over year.
| Industry | Average cost per click | Average cost per lead | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attorneys and legal services | $9.87 | $131.63 | LocaliQ, June 2026 |
| Home and home improvement (roofing, HVAC, plumbing) | $8.33 | $90.92 | LocaliQ, June 2026 |
| Dentists and dental services | $8.00 | $72.97 | LocaliQ, June 2026 |
| Physicians and surgeons | $4.76 | $40.04 | LocaliQ, June 2026 |
| Beauty and personal care | $4.62 | $39.25 | LocaliQ, June 2026 |
| Automotive repair, service and parts | $4.35 | $29.96 | LocaliQ, June 2026 |
| Real estate | $3.22 | $102.51 | LocaliQ, June 2026 |
| Restaurants and food | $2.05 | $30.57 | LocaliQ, June 2026 |
| All industries | $5.42 | $66.69 | LocaliQ, June 2026 |
That table is not about how hard the work is, it is about what one customer is worth.
A restaurant is bidding for a $40 dinner and a law firm is bidding for a case worth thousands, so the law firm can pay $9.87 a click and still come out ahead.
Real estate is the row worth staring at: cheap clicks at $3.22 but a $102.51 lead, because plenty of people click a listing and very few are ready to talk to an agent. Restaurants sit at the other end, $2.05 a click and a $30.57 lead, on a ticket that has to repeat to be worth anything.
Because an auction runs every time somebody searches, and the winner is not simply whoever bids most. Google ranks the competing ads on your bid, the quality of your ad and the quality of the page it sends people to, and its own help page says that even when a competitor bids higher you "can still win a higher position" at "a lower price" with "high-quality ads and landing pages" (Google Ads Help, how the Google Ads auction works, checked September 2026). That grade has a name inside the account, Quality Score, which is just Google's rating of how well your ad and your page match what the person typed. So two plumbers bidding on the same search can pay different prices for the same spot, and the one with the better page usually pays less.

Google sets no minimum spend, so the floor is arithmetic rather than a rule: you need enough clicks in a month to tell a pattern from a fluke. At the 8.18 percent average in LocaliQ's June 2026 benchmarks, 100 clicks is about 8 leads, and 100 clicks costs about $542 at the all industry average, about $833 in home and home improvement, and about $987 for a law firm. Below that, a slow month hands you three leads and no way to tell whether the campaign is broken or the weather was bad. Google bills the spend to your own card and the management fee sits on top, so a $1,000 test at Ziwi is $1,000 to Google plus $297 to us. The $297 covers Google and Facebook together. Your tier is set by your total monthly ad budget, not by the platform.
Multiply your trade's click price by 100. Use the table above. That is roughly one month of readable data.
Check it against one customer. If a job is worth $400 and a $542 month brings 8 leads, better than one in three has to book before the numbers work.
Turn it into a daily budget. Divide by 30.4, the number Google uses for your monthly cap, so $542 a month is about $18 a day.
Spend it on the searches that mean a job today. Two or three of those beat your whole service list on a small budget.
Judge it at 30 days on calls and forms. Clicks are not the scoreboard. The marketing budget calculator adds spend and fee together so you see the whole number first.
Local Services Ads charge you per lead instead of per click, so you stop paying for people who click and wander off, but Google does not publish a price per lead. Google's help documentation says you are "charged for each valid lead you receive through your Local Services ad" and that "lead prices may vary depending on your location, the job type, the type of lead, or your bidding mode" (Google Local Services Help, how leads work, checked September 2026). You set an average weekly budget instead of a daily one, and Google works the monthly maximum out from it. Whether it lands cheaper than search ads depends on how many of your clicks were turning into calls in the first place. What a Local Services lead costs by trade is on Google Local Services Ads cost.
Compare your own cost per lead against the published average for your trade, $66.69 across all industries and $131.63 for legal work (LocaliQ, June 2026), then look at what you pay in fees on top. Sitting above the benchmark is not automatically bad, because a $9,000 job can justify a $300 lead, but not knowing your own number is. These are the five things worth checking first in an account that feels expensive.
Two numbers, then, and they are not the same money: what you pay Google, which averages $5.42 a click and is settled by an auction, and what you pay whoever runs the account, published by Ziwi at $297, $497 or $797 a month by spend band. If you are still choosing a channel, read SEO versus Google Ads and Google Ads versus Facebook Ads first. To have the account built and run for you, see Ziwi's Google Ads management, month to month, with the account in your name. If you also run Facebook ads, see one fee for Google and Facebook ads.
If you also run Facebook and Instagram ads, what Facebook ads cost breaks the click and lead prices down the same way. Ziwi's $297 a month management fee covers Google and Facebook together.
