How Much Should I Spend on Facebook Ads? Start From the Leads

Spend enough to buy a readable month of leads: at LocaliQ's September 2026 average of $27.39 a lead, $500 buys about 18 and $1,000 about 36. That money goes to Meta. What Facebook ads cost covers the spend by trade, and Ziwi's management fee is $297 a month.

About 50 people a month search how much should i spend on facebook ads, and about 2,900 search how much do facebook ads cost (our September 2026 pull). The right budget is not a number Meta publishes: it is the leads you need, times what a lead costs in your trade, checked against what a customer is worth.

How much should a local business spend on Facebook ads?

The short answer

Enough to buy a readable month of leads, which for most local businesses means $500 to $1,500 a month in ad spend. That range is Ziwi's guidance, not a Meta rule, and it comes from dividing a budget by the $27.39 average cost per lead in LocaliQ's Facebook advertising benchmarks, published 23 September 2026. Below it, a month of results is too thin to tell a working ad from a lucky week.

$1,000About 36About 23About 16

That table is division on LocaliQ's September 2026 averages, not a forecast. The same report puts a lead campaign click at $1.80, down from $1.92 a year earlier, and a lead at $27.39, down from $27.66. Your own number moves with your offer, your city and how fast the phone gets answered, which is why Ziwi Engage replies to a new lead in seconds.

How do you work out a Facebook ads budget from the leads you need?

Start at the customer and work backwards: how many new customers you want, how many leads it takes to close one, and what a lead costs in your trade. Multiply the three and you have a budget built on your business rather than on somebody else's average.

  1. 01

Pick the customer count. Say 5 new customers a month is what the calendar can absorb.

  2. 02

Know your close rate. If 1 lead in 4 books, 5 customers takes 20 leads.

  3. 03

Price the lead. Use your own history, or the published average for your trade: $42.95 for home and home improvement in LocaliQ's September 2026 benchmarks.

  4. 04

Multiply. 20 leads at $42.95 is about $860 a month, a daily budget of about $28.

  5. 05

Check it against the job. $860 for 5 customers is about $172 each in ad spend. If one customer is worth $1,500, that is a good trade. If a customer is worth $90 once, it is not.

Run that sum before you open Ads Manager.

If the answer is a budget you cannot keep up for 3 months, the problem is the offer or the close rate, not the ad platform, and more spend will not fix it.

What does Meta say about minimum Facebook ad budgets?

Meta does not print one minimum for every campaign: its help page says the requirement depends on your business vertical, budget type, bid strategy, optimization event, currency and schedule, and Ads Manager warns you when a budget is too low (Meta Business Help Center, best practices for minimum budgets, checked 26 September 2026). A few rules it does publish are worth knowing before you set a number.

  • A cost goal needs 5 times the goal per day. Meta says a cost per result goal of $5 needs a daily budget of at least $25.
  • About 50 results a week ends the learning phase. Meta says an ad set usually settles after about 50 results in the week after its last significant edit, and is marked learning limited when it is unlikely to get there (Meta Business Help Center, about the learning phase, checked 26 September 2026).
  • A daily budget is really a weekly one. Meta may spend up to 75 percent over your daily budget on a good day, but never more than 7 times the daily budget across a Sunday to Saturday week (Meta Business Help Center, about daily budgets, checked 26 September 2026).
  • Edits restart the learning. Changing the budget, the bid or the ad can send an ad set back into learning, so pick a number you can leave alone for a week.

The 50 results rule is the one that surprises owners. At $27.39 a lead, 50 leads a week is about $1,370 a week from one ad set, close to $6,000 a month. Most local businesses never spend that and do not need to: an ad set can run learning limited and still bring in leads at a fair price, judged on a month of results instead of a week.

Want the budget set and the ads run for you?

Ziwi sizes the budget from your numbers, builds the campaign, answers every lead in seconds and reports what each one cost. $297 a month with spend up to $1,500, month to month.

How much should you spend on Facebook ads per day?

Divide the monthly number by 30, so $500 a month is about $17 a day and $1,000 is about $33 a day. Keep it in one campaign with as few ad sets as the offer allows, because splitting $17 a day across four audiences leaves each one about $4 and none of them enough results to learn from.

When should you not run Facebook ads at all?

When nobody can answer a lead within 5 minutes, when the offer is not specific, or when a lead costs more than a customer is worth. Facebook ads reach people who were not searching, so a slow reply or a vague page wastes the spend faster than any targeting mistake.

  • Nobody answers new leads quickly. A Facebook lead was scrolling a minute ago. The case for speed is in how fast to follow up with a lead.
  • You cannot name the offer in one line. A free estimate this week beats a paragraph about your values.
  • The numbers do not close. If a lead in your trade costs more than your close rate can pay back, fix the price or the close rate first.
  • The budget cannot last 3 months. One month is a test, not a verdict, and stopping mid-learning throws the learning away.
  • Your buyer is searching right now. Emergency and same-day work usually belongs on Google first. The trade-offs are in Google Ads versus Facebook Ads.

What does it cost to have someone run your Facebook ads?

Ziwi charges a flat monthly fee by spend band: $297 a month with ad spend up to $1,500, $497 with $1,500 to $3,500, and $797 above $3,500. The ad spend is paid to Meta on your own card, on top of the fee, and the ad account stays in your name.

Monthly ad spendZiwi management feeExample month
Up to $1,500$297$1,000 to Meta plus $297 is $1,297
$1,500 to $3,500$497$2,500 to Meta plus $497 is $2,997
Above $3,500$797$5,000 to Meta plus $797 is $5,797

A flat fee matters most on a small budget, because a percentage fee grows with the budget for an account that takes no longer to run. Ziwi works month to month with no long contract. The fee models side by side are on what Facebook ads management costs, the spend itself by trade is on what Facebook ads cost, and the same fee also covers Google through one fee for Google and Facebook ads.

So the honest answer is the smallest amount that buys a readable month, sized from your own close rate and customer value, and not a dollar before somebody is ready to answer the leads. For the spend itself by trade, see what Facebook ads cost in 2026. To have the campaign built and run for you, see Facebook and Instagram ads management.
