You cannot use AI to make a logo you would put on a truck, a sign or a trademark form. We ran one roofing brief through every AI logo tool an owner would find and got one idea back: a house with a roof. Ziwi's logo and brand design is $350 one time.
The brief was fictional and simple: Ridgeline Roofing in Tallahassee, Florida, navy and orange, two colors, a mark that reads small and works in one color. We gave it to Design.com, Looka, Shopify's logo maker, Recraft, GPT Image 2 and Google's Nano Banana 2, and we read the terms and published prices of Wix, Brandmark and Canva the same day, September 12, 2026. This is what came back.
You get one idea back. Design.com returned twelve results for the brief and all twelve were a house with a pitched roof.
Its suggested searches were roof, construction, home, building and safety. It is not a generator at all. It is a search box over a stock library it advertises at 449,000-plus logos: type the business name, add keywords, press search.

Our own prompt did no better. We pasted the kind of copy-and-paste prompt every how-to article hands out into GPT Image 2 and got eight two-color marks: a house outline with a four-pane window under a roofline, a shield with a roof on it, an R built from rooflines, a house inside the outline of Florida, a palm tree beside a roofline. Half of them are the stock roofing logo you already see on trucks. Our own note on the sheet reads: very cheap and like icons, not sure people would want these. Nano Banana 2 produced eight similar concepts and broke the brief without being asked, three colors instead of two and letters inside two of the marks.

Because the tool hands you the average of your industry. An image model learns what a roofing logo usually looks like and draws the most typical version, so the house with the roof comes back whether you ask Design.com, GPT or Gemini. This has been measured. AlDahoul, Rahwan and Zaki (Scientific Reports, 2025) found image models collapsed the variation within a category across 32 professions. De Rosa Palmini and Cetinic (arXiv, 2025) read six million real prompts, found 40 to 50 percent were repeats, and measured the link between shared wording and visual sameness. Everyone types roofing company logo.
Your competitor typed the same words and got the same house.
Usually not exclusively, and the contract says so. Three of the biggest names put it in writing, and Wix even has you agree not to challenge another Wix user who ends up with an identical logo. Read the terms before the download, not after.
Looka contradicts itself inside its own copy. The generation screen says "Browse unique logos generated just for you" and "No templates here". The help material concedes that "similar-looking logos can occur" because the logos are built from shared libraries. Same promise on the front, same catch in the fine print.
The preview is free and the file is not. Looka is $35 one time for a single low-resolution PNG and $72 before you get the PNG, EPS, SVG and PDF a sign shop would ask for. Brandmark is $35, $95 or $195 one time and includes a vector file at the base tier, the fairest wall in the category. Canva Pro is US$144 a year and SVG export sits behind it. Recraft is $12 a month. Shopify's logo maker is genuinely free. Every price here was checked in a real browser on September 12, 2026, because the roundup articles get Looka wrong.

| Recraft, art-directed prompt | True vector generator | $12 a month | Yes, 864 paths | 20 |

Nothing cleared 24 of 40 on our scoring, which weighs how distinct the mark is, how well it is drawn, how usable the file is and how high the paywall sits. A competent designed mark should clear about 34. Shopify tied for the top score by refusing to draw a symbol at all. Asked only for a name, it ignored the navy and orange brief, defaulted the industry to art and returned eight pure type treatments, one with a crown and one with a shield.

Want a logo you can actually put on the truck?
Ziwi designs it for $350 one time: the mark, the wordmark and the files for print and web. The price is published and the files are yours.
Better prompts get a better picture, not a better logo. We rewrote the brief the way a designer would write it, naming the construction rather than the subject: a single continuous line that rises, turns at an apex, descends and curls back so the stroke resolves into the bowl and leg of a capital R. GPT Image 2 got clean off the cliche with that: a monoline gable R, a negative-space notch R, a flat navy and orange shingle rhythm. Real ideas. Then the problems a preview hides: the curves were loose, the counters were unequal, the files were raster only, and GPT and Gemini landed on nearly identical answers to the shingle prompt. That prompt is art direction. A roofer who could write it would not need the tool. The judgment is the job.

A logo is a kit, not one picture. The mark you put on the truck also has to sit in a small circle on Facebook, print in one color on a stamp or a shirt, and stay sharp when the sign shop enlarges it.
The one tool that makes the right file type proves the point. Recraft was the only tool in the test that emits a true vector file, and it ignored the brief: a hammer on a cottage under a palm tree, a jungle landscape, a Victorian house. Every object we told it to avoid showed up, because a list of forbidden things seeds the picture rather than suppressing it. The vector for the cutout mark has 864 separate paths and the bold-stroke one has 502. A designed mark has 5 to 30. That is a tracing, not a logo file.

A picture is finished when it looks right on the screen. It has one size, one background and one file. It cannot be changed without starting over.
A logo is finished when it works everywhere it will live. It is drawn as shapes, so it scales without going fuzzy. It comes in the versions the truck, the sign, the shirt and the profile picture each need.
For two jobs, and no others. It is fine as a placeholder while you are trading and have nothing at all, and it is fine as a mood board to hand a designer so they know what you are drawn to. Generate one, save it, move on. Do not put it on the truck, do not order the signs, and do not try to trademark it.
What you generated is the average of your whole industry, and the terms you agreed to usually say you do not own it exclusively anyway.
About 40,500 people a month search logo design (our September 2026 pull), and most of them are about to meet the tools above. Ziwi's logo and brand design is $350 one time. That covers the mark, the wordmark and the files for print and web, drawn for your business rather than averaged from your industry. The price sits on the published pricing page and the files are yours outright, the same as your site and your accounts.
