Google Business Profile Suspended? How to Get It Reinstated

A suspended Google Business Profile means Google removed or froze your listing for a guideline breach. You fix the breach first, gather proof the business is real, then file one appeal. Google publishes a review window of up to five business days. Done for you from $297 a month: Google Business Profile management.

About 390 people a month search google business profile suspended (our September 2026 keyword pull), usually while staring at a dashboard message they do not understand. This guide covers the two kinds of suspension, the six things that cause most of them, the evidence Google asks for, how the appeal works, and the one move that turns a two week problem into a permanent one. If the listing is live but nobody can find it, that is a ranking problem instead, covered in why your business is not showing on Google Maps.

What does a suspended Google Business Profile mean?

The short answer

It means Google decided the profile breaks its guidelines and took 1 of 2 actions: it locked you out of editing while the listing stays public, or it pulled the listing off Maps and Search entirely.

Google's help centre files both under one page, Fix suspended or disabled profiles, and says it may suspend or disable Business Profiles that do not follow its guidelines (Google Business Profile Help, checked September 2026).

Soft and hard suspension are terms from people who do this work, not Google's own words. They are still worth knowing, because the two situations feel completely different from the owner's chair.

Why did Google suspend my profile?

Almost always 1 of 6 guideline breaches, and most of them live in the address or the business name. The document the reviewer works from is Guidelines for representing your business on Google, so read that first, then fix the specific breach before you appeal (Google Business Profile Help, checked September 2026).

A suspension is a verdict on one thing, not a judgement on your business.

What triggered itWhat it looks likeThe fix before you appeal
Keywords in the business nameAce Plumbing listed as Ace Plumbing Emergency Plumber MiamiSet the name back to the one on your signage and paperwork. Google's guidelines ban taglines, service information, phone numbers and URLs in the name
A virtual office or mailbox addressA suite number at a mail centre, or a coworking desk with no signRemove it. Google defines a virtual office as renting a mailing address you do not operate from, and it is not eligible. Coworking counts only with your own signage, your own staff and customers received there in business hours
A service-area business showing an addressA mobile locksmith or cleaner with a home address on public displayClear the address and set service areas instead. Google's own example is a plumber running the business from a residential address
A category you cannot supportA contractor listed under a licensed trade nobody at the business holdsMatch the primary category to work you can document, then add secondary categories
More than one listing per locationA second profile created after losing access to the firstKeep the original with the reviews on it and report the duplicate. Google says do not create more than one page for each location
A burst of edits at onceName, address, phone and category changed the same afternoonGoogle does not publish this as a rule, so treat it as a habit rather than a law: change one significant field at a time and let it settle

What evidence do you need before you appeal?

Google names four document types on its appeals page: official business registration, a business licence, tax certificates, and utility bills for electricity, phone, water or internet. Gather them before you start, because once you open the evidence form you have 60 minutes to submit it or it will not be attached to your appeal (Google Business Profile Help, checked September 2026).

  • The name has to match. Google tells you to check that the business name and address match the profile you are appealing. A licence in a trading name that differs from the profile name is the quiet reason a lot of appeals fail.
  • Recent dates. A utility bill from two years ago proves you were there, not that you are there now.
  • Photos of permanent signage. Exterior signage with the business name, readable, in context with the building. A magnetic van sign does not count.
  • A lease or deed for the address. This is what separates a real office from a mailbox in a reviewer's eyes, along with your licence number if the trade requires one.

How do you file a reinstatement request?

Through the Google Business Profile appeals tool, signed in to the account that owns the profile, in the 6 steps below and once per issue. Google's instruction is direct: do not submit multiple appeals for the same issue before receiving a decision (Google Business Profile Help, checked September 2026).

  1. 01

Read the guideline you broke. Find the exact clause. You cannot argue a case you have not read.

  2. 02

Fix the profile first. Strip the name back, clear the address if you are a service-area business, correct the category. The reviewer sees the profile as it is now.

  3. 03

Collect the documents. Registration, licence, tax certificate, utility bill, signage photos, lease, saved and named before you open the tool.

  4. 04

Submit the appeal. Open the appeals tool, sign in to the Google account associated with the profile, and select Submit Appeal.

  5. 05

Attach evidence inside 60 minutes. The evidence form is separate and it expires. Miss the window and your appeal is reviewed without your proof.

  6. 06

Then stop. No second appeal, no new listing, no edits while it sits. Check the status in the tool instead.

How long does a reinstatement take?

Google publishes a window of up to 5 business days for an appeal review and decision (Google Business Profile Help, Appeal Business Profile content and profile restrictions, checked September 2026). That covers one clean round. A case that needs a second round of evidence, a re-verification, or another appeal after a rejection runs longer, and Google publishes no number for that, so anyone quoting you a firm date is guessing.

What should you never do while you wait?

Create a new listing. Google's wording on the suspension page is do not create a new Business Profile for the same business while your appeal is under review, and ignoring it is the most expensive mistake in this process. About 30 people a month search whether they can delete a Google Business Profile and start over (our September 2026 pull), which tells you how tempting it gets when the phone goes quiet.

Starting over costs you the reviews, the photos and the history, and it usually creates a duplicate that gets suspended in turn. The reviews are the part worth protecting hardest: between two similar businesses, the listing with recent reviews and replies under them takes the call, which is why reviews and reputation runs at $197 a month per location alongside profile work. While you wait, also check any ads with location extensions tied to the suspended profile before you burn a week of budget.

How do you keep it from happening again?

It comes down to 4 habits, and none of them cost anything: one exact business name everywhere online, one significant change at a time, a weekly look at the profile rather than an annual one, and no keywords added to the name because a competitor got away with it.

  • One exact name, address and phone. The same string on the profile, the website, the directories and the invoices. Google cross-checks, and contradictions start reviews.
  • Keep ownership in your own Google account. An agency should be a manager, not the owner. If your provider owns the profile, a dispute can cost you the listing itself.
  • Log every change. Date, field, old value, new value. When something breaks six weeks later, you will know which edit did it.
  • Keep the documents current. Licence, registration and a recent utility bill in one folder, so a future appeal takes an hour instead of a week.

A suspension is not a ranking problem and it does not respond to ranking work. Nothing you publish counts while the listing is dark, so the repair goes first and everything else waits. Once the profile is back, the job turns into competing again: categories, services, photos, weekly posts and review replies, which is the ground covered in how to rank higher on Google Maps. To hand the whole thing over, Ziwi's Google Business Profile management service is $297 a month per location inside Local SEO Essentials, month to month, and the profile stays in your Google account with you as the owner.
